Korean-American artist Debbie Han explores human existence and consciousness through distinctive visual language that experiments across diverse artistic genres, methods, and forms. Her Graces series reflects the cultural reality of globalization in contemporary Korean society by merging the everyday gestures and postures of ordinary Korean women with the heads of Western classical goddesses. Through this bodily metaphor, she creates hybrid and paradoxical depiction of reality and ideal, past and present, and East and West. It renders the complexity of identity and the spirit of the times facing Korea and Asia in the global era.
